PAWS Mission
• To provide a wild animal facility for the rescue, treatment, and release of sick, injured, and
orphaned native wildlife;
• To educate the public about and to promote understanding of the local wildlife and their
habitats;
• To increase awareness of and appreciation for the value of wildlife and the environment, and to
protect these natural resources;
• To promote the highest standards in all activities of the wildlife rehabilitator profession;
• To promote networking, communication, and cooperation among rehabilitators, wildlife
organizations, and facilities on local, statewide, and national levels.
Philosophy
PAWS is a solid rehabilitation organization focused purely on the requirements and goals of our animals. Our philosophy is based on a simple set of principles:
Volunteers
Our volunteers are our strength. We recruit educated and skilled individuals to provide our animals with the utmost attention, devotion, and dedication. We care for and about our team and train them monthly to keep them apprised of all advancements in the rehabilitation industry. We empower each individual to make decisions with minimal administration oversight.
Honesty
We practice a relatively transparent business model, keeping our community fully informed of all activities in a professional and honest manner. We strive for long-term relationships with our community members who are willing to help us attain our objectives.
Reliability
We meet or exceed each of our goals and promises; otherwise, we do not make them. We do not take lightly our commitments. Adhering to our statements and promises is not a point to be pondered at PAWS; it is an automatic reaction.
Quality
Quality of care is the foundation of our practice. We use humane methods and techniques to treat all of our animals to ensure that we deliver quality medical care.
Vision
Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary is a safe haven for non-releasable wildlife and is dedicated to inspiring our local and global community by providing a dynamic window into nature. Through this window, we will offer multi-sensory, educational experiences with wildlife and their natural environments.
